The tree lined entrance path is the threshold of the Lifestyle centre that passes over the reflection pond.
This is where one will be greeted by the abstract sculpture of the mythical Shawu Elephant, framed by the roof geometry. The buildings wrap around a large open air amphitheatre lawn that frames the crocodile river views. The sculptural pavilion on the river’s edge, that serves as a stage for large events, is the portal to the Kruger National Park and wildlife beyond.
The lifestyle centre consists of a Restaurant, Offices, Coffee Shop, Art Gallery, Kids Zone, & Spa. This will serve as the recreational space for the estate’s residents and daily visitors. Cylindrical sculptures frame the internal trees in the Restaurant and Coffee Shop. These suspended rope elements puncture the roof line to resemble the natural surroundings, while animating the interior experience.
The buildings are a representation of how we deal with these climatic conditions. Heavy Southwestern winds, harsh northern sun, and horizontally driven rain have informed the deep thresholds, wide cantilevers, and those guarded edges that allow for year-round indoor-outdoor living.
Shawu’s Hills Gate House, the handshake of this beautiful wildlife estate. The design was inspired by nature to enhance your engagement with the surroundings. The column design echoes the shape of the trees, while the roof resembles the geometry and strength of the elephant’s tusks.
